Mental Health Therapy and Treatment

My Philosophy on Mental Health Therapy and Treatment

My approach is that I believe that humans are unique and complex beings consisting of many layers. My role is to walk with you as you uncover and discover what makes you the unique individual you are while helping you to learn new things about yourself, your relationships, and the world.

Giving you a safe place to tell your story is important and I will provide you with a confidential and trusted safe place. While I do not have all the answers I will walk you through by listening, identifying goals, and working together with you to develop a plan to create change. I believe in holistic healing of body mind and soul and will incorporate all three elements in a plan of care specifically for your individual needs. You are a big part of your healing.

I invite you to state your expectations and goals and I will help you with this if needed. Healing takes time and work. There are no quick fixes to complex situations, and effective change does not happen overnight. This process requires patience and diligence from both you and me. I am committed to you, but my goal is for you to be actively involved in your own healing.

Change begins with you. You will only get what you need for effective change by your commitment and participation. I believe that healing is possible. I believe that you can achieve whatever it is you need to achieve in creating a healthy happy environment living in the best way possible. I will help you discover the tools you need to achieve your goals and live a healthy life.

Types of Treatment

Somatic and Attachment Focused (S.A.F.E.) EMDR
I work from a client-centered approach collaborating with each client’s needs. I specialize in Somatic and Attachment Focused (S.A.F.E.) EMDR
(click here for more information about EMDR).

Somatic Therapy
Somatic Therapy is a form of body-centered therapy that looks at the connection of mind and body for holistic healing. Somatic therapy is used in conjunction with EMDR but also can be used on its own in treating trauma.

Attachment Focused Therapy
Attachment Focused Therapy is the emotional bond between infant and caregiver and the means by which the helpless infant gets primary needs met. Different attachment styles develop which building blocks of subsequent social, emotional and cognitive development. The early social experience of the infant stimulates the growth of the brain and can have a direct influence on the ability to form stable relationships.

Mindfulness
Mindfulness encompasses creating awareness and acceptance. Awareness is the knowledge and ability to focus attention on one’s inner processes and experiences in the present moment. Acceptance is the ability to observe and accept rather than judge as neither being good, bad or to avoid painful emotions.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Internal Family Systems is a powerful transformative evidence-based model that believes that humans have multiple parts. Some of these sub-parts consist of wounded parts and painful emotions such as anger and shame and some parts that try to control and protect the person from the pain of the wounded parts. The sub-parts or personalities are often in conflict with each other and with one’s core self, a concept that describes the confident, compassionate, whole-person that is at the core of every individual. IFS focuses on healing the wounded parts and restoring mental balance and harmony by changing the dynamics that create discord among the sub-personalities and the Self. Our core Self knows how to heal, allowing all of our parts to become integrated.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a type of therapy where negative thinking patterns are framed into positive thoughts that ultimately result in positive actions and behaviors in difficult moments.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is an effective combination of cognitive and behavioral therapies with the goal of transforming negative thinking patterns and destructive behaviors into positive outcomes.

Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT)
Solution-Focused Therapy concentrates on finding solutions in the present time and exploring one’s hope for the future to find quicker resolution of one’s problems.

Change Can Happen.
